Installing Eudora - Version 5.1 Preface: This document describes how to download and install Eudora 5.1. Table of Contents 1. Eudora Overview Eudora is a simple, stand-alone mail client, and the easiest to configure. It is simpler because the essential configuration settings are on a single form which can be directly adjusted at any time. It doesn't have the confusing concepts of multiple mail profiles. 2. Download Instructions Go to the website www.Eudora.com. Download version 5.1. This downloads a self-extracting .exe file, which you can then install by running it. Don't get confused by the discussion on their website about 3 different modes: Sponsored, Pay mode, and "Light Mode. Its all the same program, and you can change the mode once you have it installed. a Installation Wizard: When you click on the install program, it starts up an install wizard. In most cases, specify that you are "creating a new mail account" and then just take all the defaults. The summary is below:
Once you enter it, the same info is visible at any time under Tools..Options..Getting Started. You can change it at any time. There is one other change you should do to make it simple and that is to turn Off the "SSL Negotiation" feature. This is done in two places under Tools..Options: Eudora should now be installed sufficiently so you can send and receive mail. To check mail, click "File..Check Mail". Mail will be in Mailbox..Inbox. To send mail "Message..New Message" 3. Configuration including Simplification This section describes how to simplify the screen appearance once you've got Eudora installed. First, I run the program in Light Mode. Second, Under: Tools..Options..Display, you can turn everything off, and you end up with a nice, simple screen. The options are:
b. Leave Mail On server Tools..Options..Incoming Mail..Leave Mail on Server. This allows you to check messages, but the mail is still left on the server. You would use this if the main email client was Netscape, and you just wanted to have a look at Eudora. Once you are sure Eudora is the main program, then unclick this box. Another use use for this feature used to be when you had a home machine. But nowdays, I'd recommend just using the "IceWarp" webmail option, which is available by typing "mail.bluesoft.ca" and logging in with your user name like Fred@MyDomain.ca c. Check for mail every 1 minute Under Tools..Options..Checking Mail.
