Registering Your Own Domain
If you plan to register a dozen domains, and speculate on them, then it might be worthwhile to do the registrations yourself. But if you intend to actually use your domain, and make it fully operational, it won't save you money to register your own domain name and then ask us to run the DNS services. Because of the usual confusion, we charge more for a transfer than we do to set the whole thing ourselves. Our aim is to consolidate all the domains we manage into a standard registrar, so we can quickly make changes without learning 20 different registrar's procedures.

When you register your own domain, the issues are that you have to make sure you really know the procedures for getting control of your domain, changing it to some other registrar if you want, changing the registered DNS and mail servers.

Another issue to be wary of if you are registering your own domain name is to make sure it is properly registered with you as the owner. You must also ensure that the email address they have on file is permanent. It can sometimes take weeks to make a simple change of email address at some registrars. Beware that there are many services offering to register domain names for you, who don't properly register you as the owner or admin contact.

Unless you are the owner, you can't "fire" the company you were dealing with without their co-operation. At Bluesoft you can fire us at any time and take your domain without us having any power to stop you.

If you have already decided you are going to have Bluesoft run your website, its cheaper to get us to do the registration for you, and avoid the headache and costs of doing a "DNS transfer".
